Why is this happening to my teeth?!?

I've had braces for about a year and a half, and I brush my teeth at least twice a day REALLY GOOD, sometimes up to four times a day though. I usually spend at least a few minutes on my teeth every time I brush them.

Somehow, around my bottom brackets my teeth look like they haven't been brushed in ages! I try as hard as I can to get in those tiny spaces, but it just doesn't seem to help! My orthodontist hasn't been saying anything about it to me. Hasn't mentioned it once. What can I get to make my bottom teeth not so nasty? It's honestly not bad hygiene, I'm almost obsessive about taking care of my teeth! It's just embaressing because it makes it look like I don't give a crap about my teeth.

It is called stain and is harmless though distressing. It is obvious that you are telling the truth about your hygiene habits because your gums look healthy. Your dentist hygienist should be able to get that off for you. Unfortunately there is not much you can do yourself. Hang in there, it looks like your ortho is almost complete.

Reply:Crest White strips. you will be a happy camper.
Reply:It just looks like you need to floss.

My orthodontist gave me these things called floss threaders. I think you can buy them at wal-mart.

Flossing is very important!
Reply:This is a common thing with braces, brushing your teeth 4 times a day, is not very healthy.

You can get something like a brace brush, which are called

'Space Invaders'

Space Invaders are ideal for cleaning under wires, around brackets and in small gaps between teeth.

They allow access to areas not reached by conventional toothbrushes. Space Invaders are colour coded, with the five different sizes, ensuring every space can be reached and cleaned thoroughly.

Scroll down to space invaders.

Hope this helps.

Reply:Use a toothbrush with softer bristles that can get into the small areas. If your brush is too stiff it can not reach into the areas the picture shows.

Don't get too concerned with this...as soon as the braces come off the dentist can do a complete cleaning and change how this looks.
