What exactly means the gnashing of the teeth? In the Bible?

All i can picture is people grinding teeth it kinda makes me chuckle a bit. But what does this mean christians?

What exactly means the gnashing of the teeth? In the Bible?
Exactly what you picture. It is angry tension that the body tries to relieve itself through this gnashing. Some people do it in their sleep and ruin their teeth or have to wear a mouthguard.
Reply:It basically means that there is great suffering.
Reply:I believe it has something to do with gingivitis.
Reply:Don't know but I would get an NIV Bible -- it explains A LOT!!
Reply:Gnashing means, moving your teeth (upper and lower) against each other in anger or confusion of frustration.

Don't chuckle! There is not going to be a happy moment then. It would be a time when we have no more time; a time when we cannot say "I'm sorry!"; when we cannot 'run and fix it.' At that time, tears will flow but it will be too late.
Reply:I suppose you have to be familiar with the mourning customs of that time and place. Actually many cultures of the Middle East are the same today. When someone dies, or something very sad or sorrowful happens, a great wailing and gnashing of teeth goes out over the loss, along with crying, and in the case of Jews, rending (tearing) of garments. A very profound and public expression of grief, sadness, and sorrow.

The American cultural way of handling death or sorrow is quite a ways away from this, so I guess your question is understandable.
Reply:Gnashing the teeth is an expression of tremendous pain or suffering. Ever see one of those cowboy movies where they have to remove a bullet and they make the guy bite on a piece of wood. That is gnashing of teeth!

In the Bible, it describes the utter torment of those who are lost and have no hope of escape from hell. They got there by refusing to accept what God has provided to keep us from going there. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish (go to hell) but have everlasting life".

Jesus died to pay the penalty of our sin, and if we trust in Him and what He did, we need not suffer the torments of hell. Since you refer to "christians", I assume that you are not one. My prayer is that you will ask God to forgive your sins, and put your trust in Christ before it is too late.
